August 7th, 2008
Following is from a report in Pioneer.
The classes for the proposed Law University will commence from the next academic year 2009-10.
A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday. LN Mitra from the National Law University (NLU) attended the meeting. The proposal for the university was announced by the Union Law Minister in 2005.
The classes would commence either at the Madhu Sudan Law College or in the campus of Ravenshaw Law College.
The proposed university would be set up at Naraj in an area of 50 acre. The State Government has already acquired 30 acres of land for this purpose.
The Chief Justice of India will function as chancellor of the University while the Bar Council of India will run the entire curriculum of the university.

Lets hope things don’t get delayed as much as they have been till date…..
The fact that the Honorable Chief Justice of India is to act as the Chancellor of the proposed Law School is sure to provide it with a rare stature as the only 2 Law Schools in India where the CJ, I functions as the Chancellor are the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru and the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata………

The timing seems perfect as Law School campuses across the nation (NLSIU, NUJS & NALSAR, Hyderabad in particular) gear up for the ‘Magic Circle’ and the ‘White Shoe’ firms in a real Big way as a natural by-product of the WTO era and increasing globalisation.
Odissa, with an incredibly fast industrialising economy has to have the best and the sharpest of the legal brains as well………..
Besides, with the IIT, Bbs for the engineers n the R&D stream, AIIMS, Bbs for the Med frat., it was strongly being felt by the Odiya Lawyers around the globe that the Law frat. was lagging behind somewhat……
good for Odissa and good for all the aspiring lawyers……
