Regular JEE counseling started yesterday with Women’s categories. In addition to the colleges that were listed for the AIEEE round of Orissa JEE counseling, the list of colleges also includes IIIT, Silicon Sambalpur, Parala Maharaj and Govt. College Bhawanipatna. This does not yet appear in the Orissa JEE web site, but I was told by a friend that this is the case. So the complete list of new colleges is:

Among the above Silicon Sambalpur, IIIT, and Bhubaneswar Institute of Technology (BIT) are colleges which I would recommend the most. As I wrote earlier, I would even say that students with good enough ranks to get CET or UCE may also consider BIT and IIIT seriously. (Disclaimer: As far as I can recall, I am in the advisory board of BIT, Centurion, JITM and was in the advisory board of Silicon some years back.)

Why the JEE committee is so braindead that it can’t provide a simple html page with an input text in it’s website to give the parents of students tentative idea of what colleges they are likely to get based on their branch preference.How much time does it take to write such a program.1 day!!! It’s just incredible how incompetent these people are.Recently I read a news in Tathya.in that in the legislative assembly of orissa the members were beaming with pride that orissa is third in gdp per capita, which is so not true.Orissa’s GDP per capita is below national average forget about being third.I shudder to think with such incompetence how these people are managing state administaration.Sigh!!!

It would be a bit honest while recommending BIT you should also put a disclaimer saying that you are on the advisory board and adjunct faculty list of it. I have a lot of respect for you both professionally and personally and hope you dont find the remark derogatory.

Hi,
I believe Orissa is going Tamil nadu way.As per the latest news available in a youth channel 42 number of engineering colleges have there seats vaccant as there are no students.It seems if in Orissa we keep on starting new engg colleges like betel shops than lets get prepared for the worst to come.As per the market scenario which is not fair enough we should encourage the trustees to open colleges in other fields also where orissa lacks.One such example will be testile designing.

Note that Tamil Nadu had (last year) 352 engineering colleges. No idea how many new ones they have this year.
Orissa has 88 this year including the new ones. Taking into account the population
Tamil Nadu had (last year) 55 colleges per crore of people. For Orissa it is 23 (this year) colleges per crore of people.
Last year numbers for some states:

TN – 352
Maharashtra – 239
UP – 241
MP – 161
Karnataka – 157
Haryana – 116
Kerala – 94
Rajasthan – 81

Sir, i am in accordance with ALOK. You can understand the situation better if you will carefully observe the current OJEE’s GEWO counselling. Nice institutes like BIT,INDUS,TITE,INDIC,CENTURIAN,GIIT,SILICON WEST have not got their seats filled up in that counselling. There are not much engineering interested students in ORISSA as compared to the no of engineering institutions. If the seats will not be filled up in the General counselling than everyone will suffer this year..students,management and college everyone.
So,AICTE and BPUT should think twice before giving approval to these institutions. This will cost a lot to us in future sir.

First, the general category counseling has not started. Second, let the students and parent decide. Bad colleges will fade over time. If BPUT and AICTE blindly stop allowing new colleges, new good colleges (say like BIT) will also not happen in the future.

Well thats right. But, just think sir if BIT like institutes do not have good students in it then the college management cant do anything.
Lets take an example ..i am somehow connected with INDIC and INDUS. Both the colleges have supove management and both are very much dedicated towards their students and academic. But,last year not so good students came and they are still suffering at this years JEE counselling despite of being good colleges and managed by persons like Dr. Ravi P.Reddy, Pragjnyajeet Mahanty and Dr.Sunil Agarwalla(Gold medalist from Florida Institute of Technology).
What about bad institutes sir, the good institutes like SILICON WEST are also suffering.

Things are not easy. It takes time for the good to come out in public. The market approach is not perfect but is better than the license raj.

But,i am very much amazed at this years counselling and i am very much upset at students and parents choice as they are not taking admission in good institutes like BIT,INDUS,INDIC,CENTURIAN and prefering Xavier,Aryan like full new institutes with no background. They are going interested at the names but not at the performances and academics.
BIT is absolutely fantastic at their faculties,advisory board,management,infra structure,location and academics. Also you are assured of a job while you will pass out from BIT with almost 90% gurantee. But.alas the students are not showing interest in a guranteed institute but they are prefering something else.

sir i want to take admission in BIT. But i want to know whether it s hostel is completely built or not? whether hostel facility is available for four years or not? i am in doubt becoz in case of silicon west , in the website it is written that they have hostel but when i talked to them through phone they told that it is under construction. similarly in case of BIT’s website it says that it has hostel. But i want to know whether it available from the very beginning or not? please give the fee structure of academic as well as hostel and fooding charges clearly. in the website the cost is given about hostel rent, boarding charges residency cost etc. i can’t understand properly.

But many people are suggesting me not to take admission there as it is a new college.I want to know if it is safe for my future to take admission there.I also want to know that if campus will come in there.plz help
