Please go through the article. And please share wat you guys feel. This is complete injustice. We the people of Rourkela are fighting for our rights but it seems the state govt is least intrested.I dont think i should blame the centre for this because they have the infomation what the state govt informs…

    Citu demands for medical college

Rourkela, March 4: The Orissa Unit of the CITU has urged the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) authorities at New Delhi to establish a medical college at Rourkela.
A delegation of CITU leaders led by its state unit general secretary Mr Bishnu Mohanty met the Director, ESIC, Mr S Chaturbedi at New Delhi yesterday and pleaded for establishment of an ESIC Medical College stating that over 50 per cent of the total revenue was generated from Rourkela.
A large number of small and medium industries were located in Western Orissa and thousands of workers were contributing and dependent on ESIC, they said.
According to Mr Mohanty, the ESIC director had agreed to the proposal and said if the state government provided 32 acre his organisation would spent about Rs 500 crores for the establishment of a medical college.

I 100% agree with you Mr. Alok.
Its really saddening to learn that the state Govt. is too concentrated in having developments in Bhubaneswar alone.
Exact same thing happened with the IIT issue. It was decided to upgrade Burla Engineering College to IIT, but the state government ditched the people of this region… and proposed to have it in Bhubaneswar instead.
I very strongly feel this state government has no will in having development across Orissa as a state. And, they only know how to put the blame on the center. They just put the blame on the center and sit down with crossed fingers.
And, we are fool enough to believe that Center has neglected the State.

it is good ,centre not interested for IIM setup at Odisha.Unless state govt will set up at bhubaneswar. If feature state govt will chage we pressurise to new Govt to setup IIM at Rourkela or any west odisha.

    Chita Sir,
Once you said people of Rourkela are not raising there voice .Now what you say after going through these articles.Even if well known parties like CITU go and demand for a medical college at Rourkela the state govt wont allow this to happen as its concerned for BBSR.Its clear as crystal now.We will fight for our rights but end of the day the state govt will play a spoilsport.Thats a reality which none of us can deny.

I think the ESI location can still be changed. So the Rourkela people should continue to push for the ESI medical college to be in Rourkela. To be successful a sustained campaign is necessary. Just one or two news reports are not enough.

    Chita Sir,
CITU took the matter and discused with centre. Now when the centre has agreed the state govt is willing to to do the setup at BBSR.AIIMs is already in progress at BBSR.Then why the capital needs ESIC.People at BBSR will justify that they have airport and other facilities in place. We too have the airport at Rourkela but how it matters to the state govt.Chita sir once we had shatbdi exp frm HWH to RKL.This train was suspended for a while and then again restarted till TATA and now converted to jan-shatabdi till badbil.. just because of some nasty politics of Lalu. How many times did the state govt raised the matter with railways Not even once.becuse it was not the issue with BBSR.Why this kind of attitude. This is just an example.Once Rourkela was the No 1 city of Orissa but its all due to majority of negligence from the state govt the city is dieing today. Its not the ESIC that Rourkela dserves. There are lot of things to get in place at RKL..mr CM may know this but he will conitue to ignore. Why ..its still remains a mystrey..

I can not lead full time but would be happy to help. Following are some steps.

    1. To start with one needs to make an email list and an egroup of people that want the growth of Rourkela and who are willing to help. It could be called something like Rourkela Dev front.

    2. Then one needs to focus on a few demands. The demands should be logical, timely and have some grounding with respect to Rourkela. Following are some doable and timely demands for Rourkela.

    (a) Push the state govt. for a general state university in Rourkela.
    (b) Push SAIL for a medical and engineering college in Rourkela.
(SAIL Bokaros is doing that in Bokaro.)
    (c) One can still push for the ESI hospital to be in Rourkela.
    (d) Push NIT Rourkela to have a medical college. (IIT Kharagpur is having one.)
    (e) Push BPUT to start its research centers in Rourkela.

    3. Writing to CM: This has to be accompanied with writing to the press.

    4. Locals in Rourkela need to get involved.

    5. Political leaders in Rourkela need to get involved.

    6. Include some demands to the center so that the state also becomes part of the movement.

    (a) Demand to speed up Talcher-Bimlagarh could be one.
    (b) Better rail connectivity at Rourkela.
    etc.

    Chitta
ps — For a different city X, one can replace Rourkela by X and go in a systematic way.
