The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham had acquired more than 50 acres of land for Balaji Medical College near Berhampur and the foundation for the medical college was laid by non other than the CM of Orissa in 2003 in the presence of Sankaracharya of Kanchi Peeth but the medical college is yet to come up there. It seems most of the proposals regarding medical college are hoax with very few genuinely interested in this. So, only the reputed groups with previous trackrecord must be allowed to announce medical college and it must be completed with in a time bound period.

    Abhisek,

I do not think the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham is related to Balaji Medical College. DMK MP and Union minister of state for information and broadcasting S Jagathrakshakan is the chairman of Shree Balaji Medical College and Hospital (Minister owning a college why am I not surprised). The college was in the news for demanding Rs 20 to 40 lakhs for an MBBS seat as given in the following report from the Times of India – http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/UPA-ministers-medical-college-wants-Rs-20L-donation/articleshow/4610827.cms

Now whether we want it or not South India based trusts, minister-owned institutions will set up shop (yup education can be got in a shop, but shop with care!) in Orissa as they have the financial muscle. They will start operations only when they feel people have the paying power to give those 20 lakh donations that I am sure they continue to ask for but which the media conveniently ignores. I suppose as of now they don’t think people have the paying power so they are sitting on the fence.

Government of Odisha has a scheme for establishing private medical colleges. In western Odisha districts the Government gives free land and some start-up money through WODC. See http://www.wodcorissa.org/. They have tried this scheme in Kalhandi, Balangir and Rourkela. Rourkela may be the first success of this scheme. This scheme is likely to be used in Keonjhar.
