I do appreciate the effort and I would like to contribute some names. Some points may be pondered into.
    1. The names may also include eminent persons of Orissa in other professional fields like- Medical,Engineering,Research Assistants, Top beurocrats etc.
    2. [Suggestion deleted by editor]
3.If the purpose is to bring out a sense of achievement of Orissa then I do feel that the people themselves should also be encouraged to suggest their name in line with nominations for the award they make. An incentive may also be attached to this effort in the form of recognization by Govt. Of Orissa or any other means
    Thanks
    Ashoka

Or do they? If yes, I do not mind adding some names in later posts.

It is a great idea and an effort worthy to follow up further. I am sure, it will make a big impact on someone\’s mind (I mean Oriya) out there who needs bit of inspiration and motivation to excel in life…

IIT\’s and Educational Institutions are definitely a very good beginning. I would have a suggestion…..Many Oriya people working in govt. jobs, PSU\’s, reputed private industries and private research institutions have risen to great heights and have made a big impact in their own areas and their names will also inspire budding young minds to take up challenging careers…

  • 32. Shanti Swaroop Das  |  July 21st, 2008 at 4:33 pm

I am very happy to see this initiative. But to what extent will these details help other Oriya people across the world. If the person listed here can let others know how they can help, it would have been much better. Also how can I contact the person I need help/suggestion from. But the initiative is queit appreciable and would be very helpful if email address are also provided. If it is just for information, then it is like showing the cake from far off.
HOW I CAN HELP: I am currently working in UK and would be delighted to give suggestions to those coming newly to UK.

Prof. Oopali Operajita, the celebrated Odissi danseuse, also has the distinction of being the first Oriya to hold a senior faculty position at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA. Prof. Operajita was appointed Distinguished Faculty Fellow (at the rank of full professor) in 1989 by Carnegie Mellon University\’s legendary founder president, Dr Richard Cyert. She is a Senior Political and International Affairs Adviser to several of India\’s prominent leaders. Prof. Operajita is the daughter of eminent Oriya educators, late Prof. Bidhu Bhusan Das (who was educated at Harvard, Columbia and Christ Church, Oxford University) and Prof. Prabhat Nalini Das (former Pro Vice Chancellor of North Easter Hill University (Nagaland campus) and herself a Fulbright Smith Mundt Fellow at the University of Minnesota). Orissa must be proud of a family of such international academic distinction. I met Prof. Operajita — she is Chair of The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition (www.cicerotransnational.com). Click on The Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition.

Is this an exercise that hints at an inferiority complex?

I have seen this in most Indians, either Bengalis, Punjabis, Tamilians etc claiming everyone failntly related to them who is or was in limelight or the spam emails going round claming that there are 36% Indians in NASA and some such similar claims- does it really matter other than a false pride in region-how does it differ from having pride in one’s own caste, religion etc etc.

It is an futile exercise in self-appeasement.

I might be polemic in my views but everytime I see such links and hyper links- I do feel belittled as a human since we so easily fall for any kind of division- based on region, religion, class, caste and what not.

Apologies for some spelling mistakes in my previous post.

I forgot to comment on one aspect. By listing faculties outside Orissa- does it imply that there aren’t any ‘learned’ faculty within the academic institutions of Orissa?

Before you accuse me of being an Oriya from Orissa- well let me state my connections- I am an Oriya and work in one of the world renowned institution outside Orissa (for that matter outside India) but feel that there are amazing teachers, leaders and philosophers who are within the boundaries of Orissa.

PS: Ofcourse, Sushant Pandit is a pseudonym since to give my name will be contrary to my statement that such an exercise is nothing but an ego trip.

“Man can not chop his umbelical chord for a person like you” . You must have some identity. Right !!! Why do you say I am from Orissa? This website has far greater purpose than you can ever think of. Have you ever gone through the whole site? This website that to Prof. Baral is responsible for many changes/develoments in ORISSA. What do you contribute by this process? “We all come from MONKEY FAMILY”. Then in your logic we should identify with mokey. Mr. Pandit you need not show mirror to others.

This website never claims that we are great and successful and those who stay in Orissa are “good for nothing”. Prof. Baral may think of adding columns for Institutions inside Orissa.

Who appeases whom? In the age of internet “You” can google any one and get his profile in a fractions of second. It helps many genuine people (inspire many youngsters).

You need not talk about yourself “Mr. Pandit”. Why do you say you are successful and work in aworld reputed Organisation? How does it affect us or affect our ORISSA. You should identify youself as a HUMAN rather HUMANOID. You fill jilted…by brackets right!!!

  • 53. BIJOY  |  June 12th, 2009 at 7:15 pm

ABOVE POST IS SPECIFICALLY MEANT FOR ” Mr. SUSHANT PANDIT”. But these type of selfish comments instigated me to write above paragraph. I do not intend to hurt any one.

By the way, this site has provided lot of happiness to people who stay outside Orissa. We stay uptodate with the developments. For good or bad reasons we do not stay in Orissa. But that does not mean we will forget our mother land…

  • 54. Amit Kumar Subudhi  |  July 15th, 2009 at 11:39 pm

    Dear Sir,

I am very much happy by seeing the website and to know the potential of our Odisha. I congrats you a lot for this achievement. This will help us to know the people around us who belongs to our state and can give us logic behind to feel proud. it a immense job that you have done. I am doing my Ph.D at BITS, Pilani and never knows that this much persons belongs to Odisha. From this moment onwards i will try to interact with them.

    Thanks Again.

    @Bijoy,

the language you use in your posted comment reveals your true character.

You said: “This website never claims that we are great and successful and those who stay in Orissa are “good for nothing”.

Well if this is the case then why the title of the website is “Orissa origin faculty in marquee Indian institutions outside Orissa (work in progress)”.

Ofcourse the title itself is revealing esp. the phrase ‘marquee Indian institutions outside Orissa’

I have nothing against the website- actually I very much appreciate it and visit it ever so often but I mentioned my feelings about this particluar ‘webpage’. It is still beyond me why we have to list ‘oriya faculty” outside Orissa? What is at the core of this exercise?
Such parochial endeavour doesn’t deserve any more comments from me. Goodluck with your self gloating list.

there are several ways to stay connected and be an active participant in the State other than listing names that is nothing but a ‘self-gloating’ exercise.

  • 56. Bijoy  |  August 11th, 2009 at 10:16 pm

    Mr. Sushant Pandit

I must admire you for your broad mindedness. Every one can not be like you and should not expect every one to think like you.Leaving aside these differences in opinion we must appreciate and encourage Prof Baral for pursuing other activities that help in betterment of oriya society.

I will not get into self characterization or your nature of converting every act to a futile one. It is good to see that, you had stopped your prophecy. If you want explanations behind all these excercise then you can always shoot a blunt question. I sincerely wish that someone answers your sincere query.

**My personal answer to above activity would be “The List from which genuine students or teachers those who aspire to get into some institute of repute may always seek guidance from these persons”
