Orissa Governor bats for an IIT in Orissa

Following are excerpts from a news report in tathya.in.

So the Governor of Orissa has lent his voice for setting up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the state.

While entire Orissa is aggrieved over Central apathy towards the state by not announcing an IIT, Mr.Bhandare has also expressed his surprise over the issue.

While the Governor was addressing the gathering of students and teachers in Krupajal Engineering College here, he said that he is sad over the issue.

Entire audience present on the occasion was overwhelmed by the response of the First Citizen of the State, said a senior professor.

NUEPA Survey on Elementary Education

From a Ministry of HRD press release:

To assess progress of States and Union Territories towards universalization of elementary education, an Educational Development Index (EDI), has been developed by National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA). The EDI is based on four broad parameters of access, infrastructure, teacher related indicators and elementary education outcomes. State-wise ranking on a composite index for primary and upper primary level of education for the year 2006-07 data, is at Annexure.

 

The following plot shows the EDIs of the surveyed states. Orissa is ranked 28th out of 35 with an EDI of 0.512.
