The annual Konark Festival, which is \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\theld in an open air auditorium with the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttemple as the backdrop, showcases a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tmagical parade of India’s classical and \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttraditional dance forms. Eminent dancers \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tand their troupe delight visitors in the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\twintry evening of early December with \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdramatic choreographies. <\/p>\n

Besides, the dance performances the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvisitors will be treated, in an Artist \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCamp, to an exhibition of Orissan temple \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsculptures which are often described as \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tpoetry transcribed on stone. Sand Art \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\texhibition will be yet another \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tattraction for tourists.<\/p>\n

It is a festival of \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tclassical dances of India performed at \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe backdrop of the Sun Temple, Konark.<\/p>\n

Konark Festival was organised for the \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfirst time in 1989 in the Open Air \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAuditorium at Konark constructed with \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe financial assistance of Government \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tof India.<\/p>\n

Conceived as a festival of Classical \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDances of India, the objective of Konark \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFestival was to promote Konark as well \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tas Orissa as place of tourist \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdestination.<\/p>\n

Initially during the year 1989 and 1990, \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tthe festival was being organised for a \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tperiod of 3 days. Subsequently increased \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tto 7 days during 1991 and 1992 in \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdifferent dates. Since 1993 the festival \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tis being organised for a period of 5 \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdays from December 1-5 every year. The \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tfestival was however not organised \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tduring 1999 due to the Super Cyclone.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
