{"id":1313,"date":"2008-04-30T23:08:52","date_gmt":"2008-05-01T03:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/?p=1313"},"modified":"2008-04-30T23:08:52","modified_gmt":"2008-05-01T03:08:52","slug":"nalco-gets-navratna-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/1313","title":{"rendered":"Nalco gets Navratna status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following is an excerpt from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kalingatimes.com\/business_news\/news2\/20080429_Navratna_status_conferred_on_NALCO.htm\" target=\"_self\">a report in Kalinga Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), the flagship PSU of the Ministry of Mines and India &#8216;s largest manufacturer and exporter of alumina and aluminium, has been granted the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Navratnas\" target=\"_self\">Navratna status<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Navratna status is conferred on select Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE),on becoming significant players in the economic development of the country.<\/p>\n<p>On achieving the status, certain powers are delegated to those CPSEs that had comparative advantages and capacity to become global giants.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As per the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Navratnas\" target=\"_self\">wikipedia entry on Navratna<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The &#8216;Navaratna&#8217; status offers a company enhanced financial and operational autonomy and empowers it to invest up to Rs. 1000 cr or 15% of their net worth on a single project without seeking government approval. In a year, these companies can spend up to 30% of their net worth not exceeding Rs. 1000 cr.
