{"id":1375,"date":"2008-06-05T11:03:44","date_gmt":"2008-06-05T15:03:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/?p=1375"},"modified":"2008-07-16T11:42:28","modified_gmt":"2008-07-16T15:42:28","slug":"nalcos-40000-crore-investment-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/1375","title":{"rendered":"NALCO&#8217;s 40,000 crore investment plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following is an excerpt from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestatesman.net\/page.news.php?clid=9&amp;theme=&amp;usrsess=1&amp;id=206765\">a report in Statesman<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"story_text\">National aluminium company limited (Nalco), which was recently conferred with the prestigious Navratna status, has drawn ambitious growth plans involving massive investment of around Rs 40,000 crore in next five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"story_text\">&#8230;  Sources said the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">second phase expansion<\/span> is under implementation at an investment of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rs 4092 crore<\/span>, which is scheduled to be completed by 2008 end. Even the plans are afoot for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">third phase<\/span> of expansion, which is likely to entail expenditure to the tune of Rs <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">6000 crore<\/span>. Under this expansion, <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">the bauxite mining capacity shall be enhanced to around 90 lakh tons,<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">alumina refining to 30 lakh tons,<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">aluminium smelting to 6.3 lakh tons and<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">power generation to 1,700 MW per annum, sources said. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"story_text\"> Among the green field projects, <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">a mines and refinery complex is being planned in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Andhra Pradesh<\/span>. The project will involve an investment of Rs 7000 crore. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>Similarly, in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Orissa<\/span>, a smelter and power complex has been planned in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ib valley in Jharsuguda district<\/span> at an investment of Rs 8,500 crore. This project envisages a smelter of five lakh tons capacity and a coal-based power plant of 1260 MW capacity. Pre-feasibility report has been finalised by EIL. Nalco has submitted an application for allotment of water resources to state government last month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"story_text\"> The new projects abroad included<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">the proposed five-lakh ton smelter and a 1250 mw captive power plant in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Indonesia<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">Besides, Nalco is exploring the possibilities of setting up a smelter and power plant in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">South Africa<\/span> at an investment of around Rs 16,000 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"story_text\">Also the company plans to set up <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">aluminium park<\/span> in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Angul<\/span>, as a joint venture with IDCO.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"story_text\">Similarly, it has entered into an agreement with Bharat Earth Movers Limited for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">production of aluminium rail wagons<\/span>.
