The <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"North-South and East-West Corridor\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North-South_and_East-West_Corridor\">North-South and East-West Corridor<\/a> (NS-EW; 7,300&nbsp;km) connecting <a title=\"Srinagar\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Srinagar\">Srinagar<\/a> in the north to <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Kanyakumari (town)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kanyakumari_%28town%29\">Kanyakumari<\/a> in the south, including spur from <a title=\"Salem, Tamil Nadu\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salem,_Tamil_Nadu\">Salem<\/a> to <a title=\"Kanyakumari\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kanyakumari\">Kanyakumari<\/a> (Via <a title=\"Coimbatore\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coimbatore\">Coimbatore<\/a> and <a title=\"Kochi\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kochi\">Kochi<\/a>) and <a title=\"Silchar\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silchar\">Silchar<\/a> in the east to <a title=\"Porbandar\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Porbandar\">Porbandar<\/a> in the west.<\/p>\n<p>* In Odisha None<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Phase III<\/strong><\/u>: The government recently approved NHDP-III to upgrade  12,109&nbsp;km (7,524&nbsp;mi)of national highways on a Build, Operate and  Transfer (BOT) basis, which takes into account high-density traffic,  connectivity of state capitals via NHDP Phase I and II, and connectivity  to centres of economic importance. contracts have been awarded for a  2,075&nbsp;km (1,289&nbsp;mi).<\/p>\n<p>* In Odisha (From  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhai.org\/nhdpphase3.asp\" target=\"_self\">http:\/\/www.nhai.org\/nhdpphase3.asp<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Panikholi-Keonjhar- Rimoli, NH 215, 106kms<\/li>\n<li>Duburi &ndash; Talcher, NH 200, 98kms<\/li>\n<li>Bhubneshwar-Puri(Approved Length 59 Km) \t 203 \t 67<\/li>\n<li>Chandikhole-Duburi \t 200 \t 39<\/li>\n<li>Rimoli &ndash; Roxy &ndash; Rajamunda(Approved Length 163Km) \t 215 \t 96<\/li>\n<li>Sambalpur-Baragarh-Chattisgarh\/Orrisa Border \t 6 \t 88 \t Balance for award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u><strong>Phase IV<\/strong><\/u>: The government is considering widening 20,000&nbsp;km  (12,000&nbsp;mi) of highway that were not part of Phase I, II, or III. Phase  IV will convert existing single lane highways into two lanes with paved  shoulders. The current   plan calls for upgrade of about 5,000&nbsp;km (3,100&nbsp;mi) of four-lane roads,   although the government has not yet identified the stretches.<\/p>\n<p>* In Odisha (From  <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nhai.org\/nhdpphase5.asp\">http:\/\/www.nhai.org\/nhdpphase5.asp<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Six Laning of Chandikhol-Jagatpur-Bhubaneswar(Approved Length 61 Km) \t 5 \t 67<\/li>\n<li>Dhankuni-Balasore (Orissa portion Balasore &ndash; Laxmannath) \t 2 , 6&amp; 60 \t 235.68<\/li>\n<li>Bhubneshwar-Ichchapuram \t 5 \t 164.33<\/li>\n<li>Balasore &ndash;Chandikhol \t 5 \t 138.14<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Phase VI<\/strong><\/u>: The government is working on constructing expressways that   would connect major commercial and industrial townships. It has already   identified 400&nbsp;km (250&nbsp;mi) of Vadodara (earlier Baroda)-Mumbai section   that would connect to the existing Vadodara (earlier Baroda)-Ahmedabad   section. The <a title=\"World Bank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_Bank\">World Bank<\/a> is studying this project. The project will be funded on BOT basis. The 334&nbsp;km (208&nbsp;mi) Expressway between <a title=\"Chennai\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chennai\">Chennai<\/a>&mdash;<a title=\"Bangalore\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bangalore\">Bangalore<\/a> and 277&nbsp;km (172&nbsp;mi) Expressway between <a title=\"Kolkata\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kolkata\">Kolkata<\/a>&mdash;<a title=\"Dhanbad\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dhanbad\">Dhanbad<\/a> has been identified and feasibility study and DPR contract has been awarded by NHAI.<\/p>\n<p>* In Odisha: None yet.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Phase VII<\/strong><\/u>: This phase calls for improvements to city road networks  by adding ring roads to enable easier connectivity with national  highways to important cities. In addition, improvements will be made to  stretches of national highways that require additional flyovers and  bypasses given population and housing growth along the highways and  increasing traffic. The government has not yet identified a firm  investment plan for this phase.<\/p>\n<p>* In Odisha: None yet.<\/p>\n<hr width=\"100%\" size=\"2\" \/>\n<p>In addition to the above some of the other major highway development activities are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sambalpur-Rourkela (SH-10) : Widening from two lane to Four Lane Divided Carriage Way    &ndash; Flexible Pavement with Hard Shoulder. This is <a href=\"http:\/\/osrp.gov.in\/OSRP\/Project_Components\/PPP\/PPP.htm\" target=\"_self\">being done via PPP by the state<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Capital Region Ring Road    (CRRR): New Construction for&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 4-lane bituminous road in phases with    2-lane road in Phase-1. This is to be <a href=\"http:\/\/osrp.gov.in\/OSRP\/Project_Components\/PPP\/PPP.htm\" target=\"_self\">done via PPP by the state<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Bhubaneswar-Paradeep: New Construction for&nbsp; 4-lane bituminous road. Possibly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/5069\" target=\"_self\">as part of the Paradeep PCPIR<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Green Field Coastal Corridor from Astarang to Dhamara via Paradeep:&nbsp; Possibly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/5069\" target=\"_self\">as part of the Paradeep PCPIR<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Vijaywada &#8211; Ranch highway: Got <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/4166\">approval of Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure in October 2010 for a total budget of 1200 crores<\/a>. The detailed route and map is at <a target=\"_self\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/1247\">http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/archives\/1247<\/a>. The path is Motu &#8211; Malkangiri &#8211; Jeypore &#8211; Koraput &#8211; Laxmipur &#8211; Rayagada &#8211; Digapahandi &#8211; Aska &#8211; Bhanjanagar &#8211; Sankarkhol &#8211; Phulbani &#8211; Boudha &#8211; Kiakata &#8211; Rairakhol &#8211; Nakti Deol &#8211; Chhendipada &#8211; Deogarh &#8211; Keonjhar &#8211; Dhenkikote &#8211; Tongabilla &#8211; Rairangpur &#8211; Jharkhand border<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following annotated map shows the above highways on the Odisha map.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/wp-content\/uploads\/image\/Screen shot 2011-07-21 at 1_18_48 PM annotated(1).png\" target=\"_self\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"515\" height=\"378\" src=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/wp-content\/uploads\/image\/Screen shot 2011-07-21 at 1_18_48 PM annotated(1).png\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"background-color: rgb(51, 102, 255);\">blue path<\/span> is the divided 2 lane Vijaywada-Ranchi highway; the <span style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 0, 0);\">red one<\/span>, already a 4-lane highway as part of the Golden Quadrilateral will become a 6-lane highway; and the <span style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 102, 0);\">orange<\/span> (state\/PPP funded) and <span style=\"background-color: rgb(255, 0, 255);\">pink<\/span> (part of NHDP) ones will be 4-lane highways. I believe soon the remaining parts of NH 5 (for port connectivity to ports in Balasore district) and NH 6&nbsp; (as it connects Mumbai-Kolkata) will also become 4-lane highways and all the new ports coming up will be connected to the GQ by 4-lane highways.<\/p>\n<p>The concern is the bottom half of Odisha which will not have good roads except the Vijaywada-Ranchi highway. Unless particular attention is paid to that part, it will fall further behind.<\/p>\n<hr width=\"100%\" size=\"2\" \/>\n<p>The expressway plan at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/topics\/tnc-all\/roads-and-highways-infrastructure-in-orissa\/expressways\" target=\"_self\">http:\/\/www.orissalinks.com\/orissagrowth\/topics\/tnc-all\/roads-and-highways-infrastructure-in-orissa\/expressways<\/a> does cover all of Odisha in phases.
