Really it is very nice to see all medical /health related institutions /courses in Odisha. Does anyone having breakup in Pharmacy courses such as D-Pharma, B-Pharma and M-Pharma in the existing colleges !!!

  • 2. Dipti Prakash Palai  |  December 10th, 2009 at 11:26 am

If you compare with other states colleges this list is very small.

The long list of pharmacy colleges in Orissa is really an eye-opener. Just think about it knowing the mindset of the Oriyas there are so many medical hopefuls and just a couple of medical colleges, as a result the rest of the students end up in these pharmacy colleges. These students mostly confine themselves to a life of a pharmacist in a pharmacy (most probably one of the many owned by a single doctor) or as one of the numerous medical representatives criss-crossing the state. Why doesn’t the government throw open the doors to private players in western Orissa, northern Orissa if it can’t set up such institutions? I am sure many cash rich private institutions from southern India will jump at the opportunity of setting medical colleges in the state.

The government is actually doing more than you suggest. It is providing free land and 10 crores through its WODC and three private medical colleges are being made in Bhawanipatna, Balangir & Rourkela. See http://www.wodcorissa.org/

However, the progress on these have not been that great.

My bad, I was not aware of the medical colleges in Western Orissa. In fact it is interesting to note that the Orissa government accepts that the western part of the state is backward and is taking some active steps to mend the situation. While more needs to be done I think these are steps in the right direction. On the part about a medical college in North Orissa in Balasore I think we should wait for the assurance that the chief minister has given the people of the region. Quite frankly I think Srikant Jena should be taking a more proactive approach on the setting up of a medical college there.

Bachelor of Dental Studies (BDS), presently exist 20 seats in Govt. SCB Medical College where as at MKCG (BAMR) & VSS (SBL) it is null. We should bring the notice of our Health Minister to start immediately from the year 2010-11 with equal treatment in all the three regions.
